EXCLUSIVE: BBM for BlackBerry 10 First Look

Have you been wondering what BlackBerry Messenger on BlackBerry 10 could possibly look like? Now you get the very first glimpse ever! BBM in BlackBerry 10 will be taking full advantage of the OLED screen. How will it be doing that you ask? According to the internal slide, RIM will be opening up BBM to themes for a very special reason
RIM has been and always will be about saving battery life. By utilizing a darker theme and colors on BBM alone, RIM says it will significantly improve battery life. With just a simple black theme, RIM estimates that battery consumption can be decreased by as much as 25%. Additionally, RIM says with further optimization to take advantage of the OLED screen, you could decrease upwards of 75% battery consumption.
What do you think of the new look for BBM? We’re sure this isn’t the only way it will look. From what RIM has shown with Cascades, we may see some of those TAT animations play a role in the BBM UI. Nonetheless, it is great to see RIM working in every angle to optimize battery life. Let us know what you think!

Exclusive: BlackBerry 10 Hardware Ahead of Schedule; RIM Gave it New Color

Although RIM will still be announcing the first BlackBerry 10 device sometime in August, the release date may be sooner than the October release we previously heard. We’ve confirmed with one of our sources that the first BlackBerry 10 slate device’s hardware has been fully manufactured. There will be no more revisions and that Qualcomm LTE chipset RIM was waiting for has been nicely built into the device. Therefore, we’ve learned the first BlackBerry 10 phone might make it to release in the first half of September.
The BlackBerry 10 slate will have “a color never before seen on a BlackBerry”. The BlackBerry PlayBook was the first BlackBerry device to shy away from the usual all-black with chrome detail when first launched. It was first thought, from the leaked slides of BlackBerry 10 device, that it too would resemble the rubberized matte black color of the PlayBook. However, we’ve learned it will sport its own unique color at launch. And who knows, perhaps we’ll even see RIM release other color variations too.
Know what else is really cool? The first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical keyboard, codenamed ‘BlackBerry Nevada’, has also reached final production phase. This means the BlackBerry 10 Bold is just waiting to be touched and drooled over by consumers. However, what’s holding up these two devices from releasing is the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
While at the BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour event in NYC, we learned that some aspects of the BlackBerry 10 operating system were not live demos, but an emulated version wrapped as an app. So while the hardware may be ready to go, RIM is still working to add the finishing touches to the BlackBerry 10 operating system. Additionally, it was told to us that what the world has seen thus far of BlackBerry 10 is only scratching the surface of all the features planned in its final release.

Microsoft Surface Tablet video

Microsoft revealed Surface Tablets

  • Software takes center stage: Surface sports a full-sized USB port and a 16:9 aspect ratio – the industry standard for HD. It has edges angled at 22 degrees, a natural position for the PC at rest or in active use, letting the hardware fade into the background and the software stand out.
  • VaporMg: The casing of Surface is created using a unique approach called VaporMg (pronounced Vapor-Mag), a combination of material selection and process to mold metal and deposit particles that creates a finish akin to a luxury watch. Starting with magnesium, parts can be molded as thin as .65 mm, thinner than the typical credit card, to create a product that is thin, light and rigid/strong.

security researchers' warnings about privacy issues with LinkedIn's iOS app

Linkedln response about the collection of data:
"The company acknowledged that it picks up information from the Calendar app on your iOS device to try to sync any appointments listed with fellow LinkedIn users. The feature is opt-in, so users of the LinkedIn IOS app can turn off the ability to "Add Calendar" in the Settings screen.
The details sent to LinkedIn's server include the e-mail addresses of the people you meet with, the meeting subject, the location, and any meeting notes. The calendar data is sent securely using SSL encryption and isn't shared or stored, LinkedIn added.
But in a concession to concerned users, the company has promised two tweaks to the feature. It will no longer pick up meeting notes from your calendar. And it will add a "learn more" link to explain how your calendar data is being used."
